Technical Positions Available: Royal Opera House Oman - Middle East
The Royal Opera House-Muscat is a brand new House opening in late
September 2011. This is going to be the first major opera house in the
Middle East and will be a very exciting project. The program is fully
booked for the next two years, with some of the biggest names in opera
and ballet already signed up to appear. Not only will there be visiting
companies, but also we will be producing several new productions
ourselves.
We are looking to recruit experienced technicians and managers for Stage operations, the Lighting department and Sound and Broadcast department.
(1) Assistant Head of Stage Operations
• Have a recognized professional degree in mechanical engineering or carpentry qualification.
• Have worked for at least 5 years in a management or supervisory role in theatre or events.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of all stage operational related technical areas, particularly
with lifting control consoles, staging systems and equipment, with strong understanding of
stage principles, carpentry, engineering principles, flying operations, rigging, special effects
and props.
(2) Assistant Head of Sound & Broadcast
• Have a recognized professional degree in electrical or an electronics qualification.
• Have worked for at least 5 years in a management or supervisory role in theatre or events.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of all stage sound and broadcast related technical
areas, particularly with a sound control consoles, sound reinforcement systems, audio visual
equipment and broadcast equipment, with strong understanding of sound and broadcast
techniques.
(3) Assistant Head of Lighting
• Have a recognized professional degree in an electrical qualification.
• Have worked for at least 5 years in a management or supervisory role in theatre or events.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of all stage lighting related technical areas, particularly
with lighting control consoles, lighting systems and equipment, with a strong understanding
of stage lighting principles, electricity, electronics, projection and special effects principles.
(4) Stage Operations Technicians
• Have a recognized higher national or college diploma in an engineering or carpentry
qualification.
• Have worked for at least 3 years in theatre or events.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of all stage operational related technical areas, particularly
with lifting control consoles, staging systems and equipment, with good understanding of
stage principles, carpentry, engineering principles, flying operations, rigging, special effects
and props.
(5) Sound & Broadcast Technicians
• Have a recognized higher national or college diploma in an electrical or electronics
qualification.
• Have worked for at least 3 years in theatre or events.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of all stage sound and broadcast related technical areas,
particularly with a sound control consoles, sound reinforcement systems, audio visual
equipment and broadcast equipment, with good understanding of sound and broadcast
principles.
(6) Stage Lighting Technicians
• Have a recognized higher national or college diploma in an electrical qualification.
• Have worked for at least 3 years in theatre or events.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of stage lighting related technical areas, particularly
with lighting control consoles, lighting systems and equipment, with good understanding
of stage lighting principles, electricity, projection, electronics and special effects
principles.
(7) Wardrobe Supervisor
• Have a degree in theatre costume for the performing arts.
• Have worked for at least 5-7 years in a management role in a large theatrical/events
venue primarily for the staging of productions and events.
• Demonstrate an excellent understanding of all wardrobe related areas, particularly
knowledge of fabrics, sewing, alteration and refurbishment techniques.
• Knowledge of costume making, cutting, fitting with the ability to provide a service
for making, fitting, dressing, alteration and refurbishment of costumes to the highest
standards required.
• Extensive knowledge of techniques, materials, tools and history of costume and wardrobe.
(8) Wigs and Make-Up Supervisor
• Have a recognized professional degree in costume, wigs and make-up for the performing
arts.
• A diploma in hairdressing and make-up, or successfully completed hairdressing
apprenticeship and theatrical wigs and make-up apprenticeship.
• Have worked for at least 5-7 years in a management role in a large theatrical/events
venue primarily for the staging of productions and events.
• Demonstrate an excellent understanding of wigs and make-up as a fully fledged
professional with excellent wig making and dressing skills and hair cutting and hair
dressing skills.
• Excellent make-up and prosthetic skills with extensive knowledge of techniques,
materials, tools and history of make-up and hairstyles.
• Creativity, efficiency and flair in interpreting the designer’s brief, with keen eye for detail
and visual impact.

• A recognized college degree, higher national or college diploma with proven capabilities in managing people and programs, spoken and written english language proficiency,
and strong communications skills.
• Previous experience with theatres, performing arts organizations or cultural events production; particularly opera, theatre, or live performances.
