by Ronell Swartbooi last modified 2011-10-04 14:37 — expired

Aimed at composers and/or anyone active or interested in the business of music.

The Cape Music Industry Commission is hosting a series of workshops on the intricacies of Intellectual Property in the burgeoning Music Industry. The two-hour workshops are facilitated by the Cape MIC CEO, Peter Theunissen, and staff.

The workshops will take a good, hard look at the tricky territory of Intellectual Property in a local and global music context and cover topics like:

•What is Intellectual Property?

•How does one protect it? (registration, membership, reproduction, pay outs)

•What portion of the profits of the composition is one entitled to (producers, publishers, band members)?

The course also includes a lucid question and answer portion. Discussions will range from registration with collection houses (royalties) to IP in emerging digital media and beyond, and will give participants a clearer understanding of how South African composer’s IP is protected in a local and global music economy.
