Improvisation Workshops (CT) September & October
"Improvisation & Authentic Movement" with Jori Snell
25/26 September 2010
Venue: TBA
Time: Saturday 10am - 5pm; Sunday 10am - 2pm
Cost: R750
Bookings: Angelique dancejams@gmail.com
Improvisation as a way to create an “instant composition” is one of the most marginalized fields in dance but also in the performing arts. In this workshop we will develop & fine-tune our sensitive listening to what is ‘inside’ and what is ‘outside’. When unlocking our instinctual body-knowledge as well as our conscious mind, we can learn to
decide when, where and how we place our material. Using a base from Contact Improvisation and Authentic Movement to develop trust and free flow, we will move towards exploring our own movement vocabulary in relation to others and the space.
Contact Improvisation with international guest teacher Lucia Walker
9/10 October 2010
Venue: Obs Methodist Church
Time: Saturday 10am - 4pm; Sunday 1pm - 4pm
Cost: R400 ... R300 if you bring a friend
Bookings: Angelique dancejams@gmail.com
Contact Improvisation is one of the best techniques for learning to be fully present and for connecting to other people and the elements of the physical world. In the workshop we will allow dancing to develop from the interplay of balance, gravity, momentum, weight, touch and intention.A particular focus will be on observing the movement of our attention so we can develop a consistent quality of connection with ourselves, the dance, other people and the space. There will be opportunity to access your natural playfulness, sensory awareness and ease of movement and to recognise how your state of mind affects your dancing. We will also explore skills to allow ease and safety in falling, rolling, lifting and leaving the ground. The intention is to develop our abilities to be both soft and strong, supported and supportive, active and responsive. Lucia is interested in exploring the principles underlying movement skill and making content that is challenging and relevant for a range of age and movement ability, from people only capable of the smallest movement to skilled and athletic dancers.
