48 Hour Festival Awards 2008
Another year, another 48 Hour Festival! And it was a huge success, with a total of 61 artists making it through the weekend and 16 Gold awards.
In total five plays, four dance pieces, four pieces of music and two
visual art installations were presented to an audience who sat riveted
for three and a half hours! Oscar Petersen smoothed their way through
the evening, and in the end our eminent judges had some tough choices
to make! In the Visual Art category Christian Nerf and Douglas Gimberg
won Gold for their piece entitled “Share the Blame”. Mynie Grove and
Gabi le Roux gave Gold to both Amanda Tiffin for her piece “Almost a
Fantasy” and Beverly Rinkwest for “Hope” in the music category.
Theatre judges Brett Bailey and Jenni Reznek awarded scriptwriting Gold to Nicholas Spagnoletti for “Potential Difference”, acting Gold to Chuma Sopotela for her performance in “Three Voices”, design Gold to Sam Wilson for “The Obvious Choice” and a whopping four Golds to “Alpha Beta” – Fred Benbow-Hebbert for the script, Jaqueline Dommisse for directing, Leila Anderson for design and Richard Firth for acting.
Finally, in the dance category Louise Coetzer (“Sommer het ‘n blaar geplant en gedink daar gaan ‘n blom opkom”), Ananda Fuchs (“I’m a work in progress”, co-choreographed with Bonita Hill) and Fiona du Plooy (A Story Seldom Told”) won Gold for their choreography, Sizwe Mxobo and Luvuyo Thamba won Golds for their promise as dancers, and Owen Manamela won the Gold for best dancer.
